Pickled Mustard Greens Manufacturer in China: Two Product Lines for Global Buyers

Every serious Asian food aisle tells the same story: the shoppers who bring pickled mustard greens home come back for more. They know the difference between a sour that was built slowly in a salt vat and a sour that was poured out of a bottle. For importers, distributors and food-service buyers, that difference is the entire category. Hunan Kaikoushuang Food Co., Ltd. has spent more than two decades on the right side of it.

Based in Huarong, Yueyang, Hunan — the region Chinese growers call the hometown of Chinese mustard — we build natural sour vegetarian snacks and seasoning ingredients across a matrix of more than 80 products. This is what we make, how we make it, and why it belongs in your portfolio.

A Category That Rewards the Right Supplier

Pickled and salted vegetables travel well. They carry long ambient shelf life, they need no cold chain, and they are consumed at a frequency that Western snack categories struggle to match. In markets with established Asian grocery, hot pot chains, noodle shops and home-cooking cultures, mustard greens are not an exotic line item — they are a repeat purchase.

The constraint is not demand. It is supply consistency. Buyers who source from trading intermediaries get variation between lots: salinity drifts, texture softens, cut sizes wander, and the label on the box stops matching what is inside. Over time that erodes shelf position and forces repurchasing decisions that never should have been necessary. Sourcing directly from a manufacturer with its own salting capacity is how that problem gets solved.

Two Product Lines, One Supply Chain

Natural sour vegetarian snacks. Ready-to-eat, vegetable-forward, and built around a clean acid profile produced by controlled fermentation rather than by added acidulants. The line is positioned for consumers who want something sharp and savory without meat, dairy or heaviness. Retail pouches, single-serve formats and multipacks all sit within this range, oriented to convenience stores, Asian supermarkets, campus and office channels, and online marketplaces.

Seasoning ingredients. Bulk and food-service oriented salted vegetables and flavor bases for kitchens that cook at volume — hot pot, rice noodle and soup bases, stir-fry and braised dishes, prepared meal assembly. These are the products that make a restaurant's menu taste the way its customers remember it, and they are specified by salinity, cut, texture and pack size rather than by shelf appeal.

The two lines share one raw material stream, one salting operation and one quality system. That matters commercially: it means a distributor can build a snack program and a food-service program with a single supplier, single documentation set and single point of accountability.

Vertical Integration, Field to Finished Pack

Kaikoushuang was founded in 2003 as Huarong County Shenghua Sauce Factory and formally renamed in 2015. In March 2021 the company moved into Zone D of the Mustard Vegetable Industrial Park inside the Huarong High-Tech Industrial Development Zone — a dedicated agricultural processing cluster rather than a converted general-purpose factory.

Operations span vegetable planting, procurement, salting, research and development, production, sales and supply chain under one organization. In practice that means the company is present at the point where quality is actually determined: the field, the harvest window, and the salting vat. Raw material is not bought blind off a wholesale market and re-sold under a brand name.

A Production Base Built for Volume

The campus covers over 110 acres with 52,000 square meters of total construction, of which 37,000 square meters is modern production plant. Five high-standard vegetable deep-processing lines are installed, with a designed annual production value of RMB 1 billion. Registered capital stands at RMB 11.88 million, against cumulative investment of nearly RMB 200 million in the site.

More than 200 employees cover research and development, marketing and new-media e-commerce, production management and quality control. The facility was built to be digital and visually monitored — process visibility is treated as a production asset, not an afterthought, because buyers auditing a food supplier increasingly ask to see the line, not just the certificate folder.

Brand Portfolio and Channel Readiness

The company follows an independent brand route rather than an unbranded commodity route. The Kaikoushuang brand has earned consumer recognition in the domestic market, and the portfolio holds 24 registered trademarks, including Kaikoushuang and Chanlianmao (Greedy Cat). Multiple brands let a single manufacturing base serve different price tiers, different retail environments and different consumer segments without cannibalizing itself.

This is useful to an overseas partner in a specific way. A supplier with a real brand book understands shelf presence, planogram fit, pack architecture and promotional rhythm. Those are the things that decide whether a product sells in a supermarket or sits in a warehouse.

Where These Products Fit in Your Market

Importers and distributors building an Asian pantry range: ambient-stable, high-velocity salted vegetable lines with a consistent specification across shipments.

Food service and hot pot operators: bulk seasoning ingredients specified to your recipe, with salinity and cut held to a fixed standard so your kitchen does not re-season every delivery.

Asian supermarket chains and convenience retail: ready-to-eat vegetarian snacks in pouch and multipack formats aimed at the impulse and lunchtime occasions.

E-commerce sellers: products with strong visual identity, a story worth telling and a repeat-purchase curve that supports subscription and bundle mechanics.
